I am a lame farmer

But I can admit when I was wrong. She is a he. She, er, he woke us up at 6:20 this morning, cocka-a-doodle-dooing. We're trying to muster the courage to make him into pozole, but really we will probably just call Animal Care & Control. Unless you want him?

Maggie will be sorry to see him go.

I've heard there is some lady who has a lot of farm land and takes roosters...maybe research this instead of the guillotine?

This is Alex -- I rent an office from Pete. I've got a friend who is willing to help with the slaughter, if you're serious about eating it. (We'd want to partake, too.)

Within hours of posting this Tilly was plucked and ready for dinner. He is now "curing" in our fridge for pozole. I wasn't here for the slaughter, but it was quite the event. I'll have pics and a longer post very soon.
We found out that Animal Care would just euthanize him and throw him out which just seemed like such a terrible waste and such indignity. Apparently his death was quick and graceful and he will now be put to use.
As a meat eater, I don't have a problem with killing a chicken. I have a problem with wasting a chicken.
Alex--sorry I didn't get this soon enough. But we have video.
